Northwest University is a comprehensive research university. The School of Public Management was established in 2000, The teaching and research of the Public Administration Major started in the 1980s， and it is one of the  earliest institutions of higher learning  involved in this field.

About 1000 students in 9 undergraduate programs（Administrative Management、Human Resource Management、Nonprofit Management、Labor and Social Protection、Management Science、Public Policy、Library Science、Archival Science、International Politics）are currently pursuing bachelor’s degrees at The School of Public Management. The undergraduate programs of Public Administration usually have a schooling system of 4 years.  The programs are delivered in Chinese or bilingually in Chinese and English. Bachelor’s degree and graduation certificate are awarded to those who have finished all the required course work and passed thesis defense. The undergraduate programs strive to achieve balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialized courses and breadth of knowledge gained through general courses.
